Fresh off the bus from Mississippi, 18-year-old Joyce Street showed up at Reena Records' Hollywood studio in 1969 with a demo and a dream. Inspired by R&B crooner Brook Benton, Joyce's original 'Life Ain't Worth Livin' was crafted with soulful intentions, but when producer Hal 'Hillbilly Heaven' Southern got into the studio it ended up in a more countrypolitan place. Channeling the honky tonk angel energy of Bobbie Gentry, Lorretta Lynn, and Jeannie C.Riley, 'Tied Down' compiles a decade's worth of melodies disguised as lottery tickets.
